For all those who prefer Mac computers solely because they don’t get viruses, the jig may be up. A piece of malware called the Flashback trojan has reportedly now infected up to 600,000 Macs across the globe.<\/p>\n

As reported on Gizmodo<\/a> and CNET<\/a>, there are a variety of ways to determine whether your Mac has the Flashback trojan, and to take the necessary steps to remove it from your OSX system.<\/p>\n

If you’re comfortable using your Terminal, here are some instructions<\/a> on how to detect and remove the Flashback malware the old-school way.<\/p>\n

If you’re not much of a techie, F-Secure labs has built an app that automates<\/a> the detection and removal of the OSX Flashback malware.<\/p>\n

The Flashback trojan reportedly exploits a security flaw in Java, and Apple has already released a Java update that fixes this issue. They’re also working on a piece of software that will detect and remove the little bugger.<\/p>\n

The likelihood of your computer being infected with this virus is relatively low, but hopefully this is not just the beginning of a wave of viruses targeting Mac users. Loyal Mac fanatics will, of course, not be deterred.<\/p>\n
