The virus has wreaked havoc on our health and wellness\u2014the very foundation from which personal development and prosperity are built. It has also forced businesses we know and love into rapid pivots, abrupt closures, and in some cases, long periods of stasis. Business leaders and employees alike have been compelled to assess their values, often embracing an <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.weforum.org\/agenda\/2021\/11\/what-is-the-great-resignation-and-what-can-we-learn-from-it\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">entirely new direction<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-11728 alignright\" src=\"https:\/\/tjarb.com\/limetech\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/09\/chris-montgomery-smgTvepind4-unsplash-1-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" \/><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">As a tech company with both US and international clients, we\u2019ve been among the lucky ones. Our business has remained continuous with only some small bumps along the way. We have not been insulated, though. <strong>The past couple years have seen us through a period of deep personal reflection and an assessment of our purpose and overall business model.<\/strong> This is part of a process we initiated in 2018, but which has truly gained momentum in the last year and a half.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><b>The how and the what<\/b><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The technical nature of our work means that we\u2019ve always spent a lot of time looking at challenges from the lens of <strong>\u201chow\u201d and \u201cwhat.\u201d<\/strong> In the past, we\u2019d host meetings with our clients to document their business objectives. Many of the conversations would be framed in terms of existing problems that were hampering productivity. We\u2019d analyze their technical environment and long-term goals and then propose and implement a product or solution that could effectively deliver the desired outcome. We\u2019d keep the tenor friendly and fun, but our orientation was largely on problem solving, channeled through the lens of documentation, analysis, implementation, and delivery. That was the case for our first 13 years in business.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><b>Massive industry change<\/b><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-11980 alignright\" src=\"https:\/\/tjarb.com\/limetech\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/12\/idella-maeland-IdMAtB9cVpg-unsplash-300x200.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"200\" \/>Change began, however, at least five years ago. For some time, we&#8217;d helped clients transition to cloud-based IT environments; some of them had also gone fully remote. While this benefited our clients enormously, the outcome was that, operationally speaking, our work had changed. Cloud server environments require less management, and the work was less married to the client&#8217;s entrepreneurial goals.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">We\u2019d also observed the proliferation of the <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Managed_services\">managed services provider (MSP)<\/a> business model in the IT services industry, a move that, while lucrative for many, was a big step away from the more hands-on, service-oriented model we preferred. <strong>We could see that the evolution of IT services was becoming increasingly abstract and sales-oriented, and we were not thrilled about it.\u00a0<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<h3><b>Early ventures in creative tech<\/b><\/h3>\n<h3 style=\"line-height: 1.76923em; margin-top: 0.884615em;\"><b><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright wp-image-11733 size-medium\" src=\"https:\/\/tjarb.com\/limetech\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/09\/ian-schneider-TamMbr4okv4-unsplash-1-300x200.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"200\" \/><\/b><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Fortunately, over the years we\u2019d also had the opportunity to implement a range of creative and innovative projects for some of our legacy clients. This began with simple WordPress websites and<a href=\"https:\/\/www.claris.com\/\"> Filemaker<\/a> database development, but evolved to include business software and mobile-app-dev projects. This was the kind of work that resonated with our team, and helped illuminate our new business direction.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>In 2018, LimeTech went fully remote, and we initiated a massive pivot that\u2019s been in the works ever since.<\/strong> These changes gained momentum over the course of the COVID-19 pandemic, when industry (and cultural) change validated our instincts.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>Navigating LimeTech\u2019s vision for 2022<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>As of 2022, LimeTech will be a product and design-first company.<\/strong> Our work will be delivered in coordination with our sister company, <a href=\"https:\/\/24online.jo\/\">24Online<\/a>, in Amman, Jordan. Project management, design direction, and content creation will be the domain of the LimeTech team, while front and backend development will be done by our cohorts overseas. This will enable us to take on more substantial software development projects, and to help our clients innovate in the digital space.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">To match this new orientation, we\u2019ll also be unveiling a total rebranding and remake of our website. Yes, this will be an extreme makeover. But change is good, and for us, long overdue.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright wp-image-11965 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/tjarb.com\/limetech\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/12\/Screen-Shot-2021-12-01-at-3.32.43-PM.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"1481\" height=\"842\" \/><\/p>\n<h3><b>In the context of culture change<\/b><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">So, now to the \u201cwhy.\u201d We believe the future of technology is pure creativity and innovation, and we want to take our place fully at the center of that conversation. The challenges wrought by the COVID-19 pandemic, and the threats posed by global warming, have shown us now, more than ever, that our old institutions and legacy ways of doing business are not sustainable. <strong>The future demands adaptation, innovation, and new ideas.<\/strong> We have big ideas to contribute. And we believe there&#8217;s no other way forward.<\/span><\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_11977\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-11977\" style=\"width: 625px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-11977 size-large\" src=\"https:\/\/tjarb.com\/limetech\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/12\/Screen-Shot-2021-12-01-at-3.08.07-PM-1024x788.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"625\" height=\"481\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-11977\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">https:\/\/www.etymonline.com\/word\/technology<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In the vein of <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/ZRVv2b-hL_0\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">everything old is new again<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, the zeitgeist we\u2019re joining is future-forward, but also involves a return to the original meaning of the very word \u201ctechnology.\u201d The word traces its origins back to Greek philosophy and literally means \u201cthe study of an art, skill, or craft.\u201d <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>We\u2019re looking forward to a synthesis of pure technology with the realms of art, design, and invention, and we can\u2019t wait to pitch in.<\/strong> <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">And it should be said, we\u2019re <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.adobe.com\/max.html\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">not the only ones<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> to propose we\u2019re entering a new age of collaboration and accessible creativity. Or that the time has come for a <a href=\"https:\/\/trends.uxdesign.cc\/\">massive rebuild<\/a> of our work and, perhaps, our lives. So, in the spirit of that, we&#8217;re going to put up our sail and let the wind propel us in a very new direction.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><\/h3>\n<h3><b>On a personal note<\/b><\/h3>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-11975 alignright\" src=\"https:\/\/tjarb.com\/limetech\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/12\/helena-hertz-K0FidtcDQik-unsplash-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" \/><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">For LimeTech founder Ihssan Abukhalaf and myself, LimeTech\u2019s new direction is a return to our roots. It gives us the opportunity to combine our 15+ years in tech with our other credentials as creatives and entrepreneurs. Behind the scenes, we\u2019ve been building up quite a portfolio of new work, and we\u2019re looking forward to unveiling it when our new site launches.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Going forward, LimeTech will continue to offer some of our legacy IT consulting services, but our focus will be on designing and building new products and experiences\u2026and even breaking some rules here and there.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Keep following this blog for updates in the coming weeks.
